Day:247, Words:247

It was a day of the last preparations before the grand glacier tour tomorrow. Supplies needed to be purchased to feed 40 hungry students and teachers. Soup with cut up sausage is the usual go as it caters to most tastes. The other meal to be prepared is in the form of minced meat, combined with a packet mix containing rice and something called American spices, whatever that is...

There was an event of sorts at the library at 6 pm. It was the prize awarding ceremony for those kids who had sat down with a good book or two over summer. As the children of Øksfjord are avid readers, or possibly because ice-creams were promised, the library was full of sweaty boys and girls who had just finished football training. Just as the head librarian was concluding her heartfelt speech about the joys of reading, an excited mum yelled out, " Look, an otter". The whole bunch rushed to the window to view the curious creature. After the commotion had died down, the kids collected their ice-creams and hovered around the DVD section, convincing parents to hire the unsuitable movies.

Isn't it weird how some animals are valued more than others. The cute group, which may or may not include otters, eagles and dolphins bring folk to the window with cameras and wonderment. The poor old reindeer is greeted with angry shouts, harsh clapping of hands and the occassional tree branch. It just does't seem fair.
