The Citroen is taking a journey to Hammerfest and although the weather forecast looked ok, the conditions over the mountain passes can turn ugly very quickly. The fact that the weather guessing commitee had not predicted any snow influenced my decision to change from summer to winter tyres. It is one of the few man jobs that I feel relatively confident in completing, although there is usually some blood and swearing involved. The first wheel is always the hardest and then the trick is to remember to tighten the nuts so that the wheels don't come off while drivng and bounce into the fjord. I have heard this has happened at least once before. The job was completed and after a quick test drive around Øksfjord, the vehicle was deemed safe for the road to Hammerfest.
The Alta newspaper reports that while many Norwegians turn their noses up at such exotic foods as sushi and Indian curry, their own local delicassies are not overly enjoyed elsewhere. It is a shock that old sheep head or sodium baked cod is not more popular on the buffets of Paris. You just can't help bad taste.
The student loan interest rates are increasing. Norwegian students rarely work while they are studying and require some funds to help out with the pizza and cask wine invoices. They receive two lump sums of cash from the government during the year and try to budget their way through to summer, when the council and local shops are inundated with youthful workers. By the end of their university years, the total loan can be rather daunting. The latest rate increase won't help.
