Day:277, Words:277

Norway lies at the top of many lists in the world. One of the richest, thanks to the discovery of oil and one of the highest standard of living. Yet the simple needs ocassionally cannot be met, due to insane local political systems. All Norwegian children have a right to fresh food at least four days a week while they are at school. Now after six weeks of the new school year, it has become apparent that half the schools within the Alta municipality do not receive fruit. The councillors claim that there is only just enough money to feed fruit to half of the children. In one of the richest countries in the world, where exports of oil pour billions of kroner into the coffers, somehow a few apples, pears and oranges will apparently throw the budget into chaos. Surely this ridiculous and embarrassing situation cannot continue. In the meantime, while some munch on bananas, others only a few hundred metres away are left staring at empty fruit bowls.

A group of eight paddlers have struggled with their kayaks upstream in the Alta river. There was a strong competitive instinct as young and old covered the distance in calm conditions. Last year there were three competitors, this year there were eight. Organisers are hoping for double figures next year.

A Russian born, ex northern norwegian who now lives in Oslo competed in the final of the Nordic final of the Miss Universe competition. Although Miss Sara received some positive feedback, she did not manage to snare a top three spot. While studying law, the model enjoys the competitions and wants to continue in the catwalk business.
