Day:276, Words:276

With one car in Hammerfest, the other in the workshop and the replacement automobil not up for the journey to Alta, it was decided that the family make a trip to Alta on the old bus. The bus leaves Øksfjord at around 8:30 am on most days of the week and returns home at around 6:30pm. There were a few others waiting at the bus stop outside of the kiosk.

The kindergarten was closed today as the staff attended a course also in Alta. It had been a while since the kids visited the 'Nordlys' swimming pool centre, so today seemed as good as a day as any.

The bus was a little late but it was a stunning day, with the glacier looking as bright as ever against the late autumn sky. People jumped onto the bus from the strangest of places, in the middle of nowhere, with not a dwelling in sight.

We arrived in Alta, just after 11am and after a few errands it was time for lunch. There are only a few dining possibilties in Alta. Peppes Pizza is the most popular, although I do worry about any venue that serves up lasagne two minutes after it was ordered. The Indian restaurant has an Italian name and a menu with an identity crisis. The Chinese is nice enough in a 1985 type of way. We chose to dine at the cute cafe under the esculators.

Judging by the entrance price to the pool, one would expect two nights accommodation and champagne. There was much fun to be had, however, on the slide, the climbing wall, the spa and the massive inflatable iceberg.
