Day:216, Words:216

In a place like Øksfjord, some things are out of reach. Mcdonalds, a good macchiato and cheap furniture. IKEA lies just over the border in Sweden and Northern Norwegians are flocking to Haparanda with mini vans, station wagons and trailors in order to redecorate their abodes in modern Swedish style.

Furniture is not the only product Norwegians will cross the border for. Cheap alcohol, cigarettes and meat is a popular reason for folk from up here to cross into Finland. There used to be a limit per person, which led to vans of small children being taken on a trip across the border, leaving enough room for the good things in life. Nowdays, the limit is per vehicle and if caught by the border control, the fine is hardly worth the risk.

Rain and fog once again filled the day. The only consulation is that the rest of the country has also experienced a soggy and unpleasant summer. Even the so called stable weather pockets in Finland and Sweden have been cursed by the depressing conditions. Some have become so desparate for sun and warmth, that last minute flights have been booked to southern Europe. Others are evaluating the possibilty of escaping during the Christmas break. Opening presents beside the pool in Thailand is quite enticing.
