Day:219, Words:219

Preparations are under way for nine football teams from Øksfjord to travel to Alta for the biggest football tournament in Northern Norway. Practice games and training took place today, before the first games are played on Friday morning. The youngest teams were thrown into the spotlight as TV Nord is filming a documentary about the involvement of football in Finnmark, from a range of different perspectives. The coach was interviewed in depth and the kids were filmed during training.

In a remarkable coincidence, a boyfriend of one of the documentary makers happened to be from Australia and was suprised to learn that one of his countrymen was living 100 metres from where they were filming. He was sent up the road at once to have a coffee and talk about footy, vegemite and Eddie McGuire.

The Alta tournament is a social highlight for kids and parents alike. A caravan village is set up on the grounds of a school close to one of the football fields and the kids come and go as they play at various venues around town. However, it was announced last night that due to some work being done at the school, that caravans may not be permitted this year, throwing the accommodation options into chaos.

Tenting can be cold at this time of year!
